Is “Next in Fashion” worth watching?

I recently finished the show “Next in Fashion,” on Netflix, which revolves around a group of 18 talented clothing designers competing for $250,000 and a chance to start a clothing line with Net-a-Porter (a high end clothing site). At first, I was skeptical of the show, I figured it wouldn’t catch my attention and that it wouldn’t be what I though it was. However, I was so wrong. I cannot stop talking about the show to my friends and family. I would watch it again even though I know the winner, it’s that good.

I won’t write any spoilers because that’s wrong for people that are watching or plan to (:

The main idea of the show is to see how the designers work in pairs and how they can create different outfits that go along with the given theme in two days, might I add. Each week, a pair is eliminated until they are left with four people. Then they compete against each other. I was amazed by every single outfit that was made. It is different than the “fashion” I see everyday, it is runway fashion. Red carpet fashion. Real fashion. It’s what I want to do with my life. I want to be in that environment surrounded by talented designers and gorgeous clothes.

One of the things I personally liked was that the hosts, Tan France and Alexa Chung, actually critiqued the looks along with well known designers. They didn’t just host the show, they judged as well and I thought that was really interesting. Most hosts don’t judge, they just keep the show going. Plus, they were really funny and they kept the show lighthearted.

The show is ten episodes that are about an hour long each which makes the watcher really anticipate what is going to happen next. I watched the show in a couple days. I did not hesitate. I hope they come out with a new season and I can’t wait to watch it if they do.

So, to answer the question, yes, “Next in Fashion” is worth watching!!

Life after High School?

I am a 16 year old senior in high school. People ask me all the time what my plans are and what I want to do. I often hesitate because my dreams are very different than the dreams of the people around me. I don’t want people to judge me or think I am stupid for going into an art field rather than something more traditional. For example, my sister is a nurse and one of my brothers is at Harvard. You read it right, he is at Harvard. Therefore, I just feel like I will never live up to my siblings’ accomplishments.

Four people in my family are nurses. I don’t want to be a nurse. I used to want to go into the medical field but then I realized I am a HUGE germaphobe and that could never happen. I want to do something different. I always have. I wanted to go to culinary school and then that changed. I always have different interests: I like cooking, music, fashion, art, etc. The one that has stuck with me is fashion.

I wish I had enough talent to design clothing but sadly I don’t. I would love to do anything fashion. I have thought about fashion journalism which would be absolutely amazing. That is the main reason I started this blog, just to get started somewhere. I would also go into fashion marketing or merchandising if I could. I just want to be somewhere I love. I want to come home from work and not be sick of my job. I want to wear the clothing I want. I want to be happy. I think that is the most important thing about a job. But what do I know?

So with all of this said, I want to go into the fashion industry. I have started to care less about what people think about it because it’s not their future, it’s mine.

This is what I want to do.

Fashion Revivals

There are so many trends that are making a comeback these days. The styles that I have seen the most are chunky shoes, high waisted pants, and scrunchies. I personally love all three of these trends but let’s look at them individually.

Chunky shoes. I have seen these everywhere. Whether they are the Fila Disruptor II’s or the traditional Dr. Martens (I wish I could rock them both but sadly I cannot). Shoes can be the staple of an outfit helping it all blend together. An outfit can turn from casual to dressy just by wearing a simple pair of heels. The chunky shoes, however, I feel as if they add a sense of boldness to one’s outfit. In my hometown, which is very small, the chunky shoe style is very out of the ordinary. Because of the small town, if I were to wear these types of shoes, I would most likely get made fun of. It really irks my nerves because I want to be confident in myself and not be made fun of the shoes I choose to wear.

The second trend I have seen the most is high waisted pants. I absolutely love high waisted pants because they look good on my body type rather than low waisted pants. I personally like the feeling of comfort knowing that my stomach is hidden. High waisted bottoms would be best for the pear shaped or hourglass shaped people. I have an hourglass figure myself. My sister looks better in low waisted pants because she has fewer curves than I do therefore the straight leg, low waisted bottoms fit and look better on her. All of my jeans are high waisted because that is what I am comfortable in and being comfortable is most important.

Ah, scrunchies. I feel like this trend was all the rage last year and it still is. I know so many people that have hundreds of scrunchies just for the look of them. Some people use them for accessorizing and if that’s you, go for it. Don’t get me wrong, they are great accessories but I personally use them because I have thick hair and they don’t leave the hair-bow indent in my hair. However, it is so fun to match the scrunchies I have with the outfit I’m planning to wear. This trend is mainly from the 90s’ and now it is making a return in 2019 and 2020.

There are so many more trends that I can talk about but these are probably my favorite.

In addition to these three trends, I like wide leg pants, chokers, and corduroy fabric. I love fashion and I love past decades so when the two intertwine, it makes me so happy inside and reminds me of why I want to go into the fashion industry.
